Baseball, Snakes and Summer Squash: Poems About Growing Up
Published in Paperback by Boyds Mills Pr (February, 1996)
Average review score:

Wonderment of ChildhoodDonald Graves' poetry book, "Baseball, Snakes, and Summer Squash" recants the follies and joys about growing up. While simple in thier construction, the poems express adequately all the dimensions of being a kid; from school to hating squash. Graves claims he wrote some of the poems specifically for boys to identify with, but don't be fooled, this gem is applicable to all. VERY usuable in the classroom and with children - a must read.

Ben Jonson Revised (Twayne's English Authors Series, 557)
Published in Hardcover by Twayne Pub (February, 2000)
Average review score:

Great OverviewThis is the best overview of all of Jonson's works I knowof. It is an uptodate revision of the authors' 1979 book. It follows the Twayne format and provides a chapter on Jonson's life and then one on each genre. I'm writing my dissertation on Jonson, and this book has already proved really helpful. It is very accessible, but also sophisticated at the same time.

Betsy's Busy Summer
Published in Library Binding by William Morrow (August, 1956)
Average review score:

A book that everyone should read! This book was such a great book that I think everyone should read it. It was a big book but I think everyone could read it. You can bring it on trips and there are lots of books on the internet for you to get some more. The first one I've read so far is Betsy's Busy Summer and it was pretty good. That's why my daddy and I are ordering some other books of Betsy. You can too. You could also get it at a library or at your school you might be able to check it out. Try to go to places where there are lots of books and try to get Betsy's Busy Summer. Betsy's Busy Summer is good because the first chapter is pretty wierd but once you read up to the ending it is a pretty good book. Hope you read it soon!

Bible Map Insert
Published in Paperback by Son Light Publishers ()
Average review score:

By Far the best! These are the best Bible maps I have ever used. My Bible study group literally went "Ooooo!" when I showed the maps to them. While reading through the book of Acts, I was able to follow precisely where the disciples traveled. Every location listed in scripture could be located on these maps. Probably the best thing about them is that they are the same size as a standard bible and can be attached inside. They are compact and easy to read. The overlays showing modern day geography have been particularly helpful when studying current events.

Blueberry Summer
Published in Hardcover by Aeonian Pr(Amerx) (November, 1989)
Average review score:

Excellent story about a girl who learns to like herselfI first read this book when I was in grade school, and I still love it, 20 years later. Cass Phillips, suffering from low self-esteem, is forced to spend the summer babysitting her eight-year-old brother on the family farm in Maine. She is overweight and surly, but manages to capture the attention of a boy who is attracted to her mind. Of course she loses weight by the end of the book but it's not about her trying to keep some guy. It's that she found out what was bothering her and stopped eating to solve her problems. She grew up, gained some self-confidence from handling a large crisis and found out that she had something to offer the world. This is an excellent book for young women with self-esteem issues. There is a sequel called "The Fabulous Year" which I have read that is great also, but I am not sure if there are others. Amazon lists the books by this author but unfortunately, there are no synopsis with the titles. Anyway, check this one out, you won't be disappointed!

Average review score:

The Bridges of SummerA thoughtful and sensitive book about the meeting of two cultures and eras. Zarah, a savey teenager from New York, learns about an entirely different way of life when she visits her grandmother on an island off of the coast of South Carolina. Ms. Seabrooke skillfully deals with the dilemma created when Zarah drops back into an era of old southern mentality. She is able to treat her characters with sensitivity and dignity while telling this story of learning to bridge the generations between Zarah and her grandmother.

Travel, romance, intrigue...and more!Andi and Gail, the two main characters of this novel, embark on a much-deserved vacation to England, Wales, and Ireland. What are they looking for? Why, romance and magic of course! They find the romance, visit all the historical sites in England, Wales, and Ireland AND they get a heavy dose of intrigue when they least expect it! Twists and turns in this plot where you least expect them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I found myself laughing in an empty room (luckily it was empty), and trying to figure out the "who dun it" part of the story. A great summer read!
